From Humble Beginnings to Nationwide Wellbeing Services
From Humble Beginnings to Nationwide Wellbeing Services
In April 2010, Kathy Scott created Hands On At Work. The business started by offering onsite massage services in Worcestershire, allowing employees to experience the benefits of massage therapy right in their workplace. Fifteen years later, it has evolved into a thriving nationwide business, providing a diverse array of wellbeing services.
Kathy Scott’s background is rooted in the legal profession, where she worked for many years. However, she decided to take the plunge and leave her legal career to pursue her passion for massage therapy. This decision proved to be one of the best she ever made, as it not only allowed her to start her own business but also gave her the opportunity to engage in voluntary work. For a couple of years, Kathy volunteered with a charity called Healing Hands Network in Bosnia, providing massage therapy to individuals who had experienced trauma during the 1992-96 conflict.
In 2020, Kathy marked a decade of experience by authoring a book titled “Rubbing Shoulders With The Best,” which documents her journey in growing the massage business. The book received recognition and won the ‘Highly Commended’ Award at the Business Book Awards 2020 in the specialist business book category. Very exciting!
In 2016, the arrival of Chantall Herbert marked a significant turning point for Hands On At Work. As the Business Development Officer, Chantall played a crucial role in networking extensively across the Midlands (often seen in our signature purple t-shirt). Her efforts to increase the business’s presence on social media and her energetic and enthusiastic approach became synonymous with Hands On At Work. Her ability to connect with clients and partners helped to expand the business’s reach and establish strong relationships within the community.
The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 brought unexpected challenges. Lockdowns and restrictions meant that Hands On At Work could no longer provide its onsite services. However, this period of adversity sparked creativity and innovation within the team.
Recognising the need to continue supporting their clients, Hands On At Work introduced online Desk Yoga and Mindfulness sessions. With some of their therapists trained as yoga teachers, they seamlessly transitioned to virtual platforms, offering employees much-needed relaxation and stress-relief techniques during challenging times.
Even after restrictions were lifted, these online sessions remained a valuable addition to their service offerings. This adaptability demonstrated Kathy and her team’s resilience and forward-thinking nature.
Today, Hands On At Work boasts a network of over 200 therapists across the UK. Collaborating with several wellbeing experts, they now offer a wide range of services in addition to the onsite massage including:
Mental Health First Aid Training,
Neurodiversity Training,
Nutritional Webinars,
Lunch & Learn webinars covering various topics, such as men’s health, menopause in the workplace, stress management, and more.
From its humble beginnings in Worcestershire to becoming a nationwide leader in workplace wellbeing services, Hands On At Work’s journey continues to inspire and grow.
