15 Jan Choose to be fitter & healthier by making changes to your nutrition in 2019…
Most people start the new year with the best intentions with their new year resolutions, usually with ‘losing weight’ at the top of the list!
Why do we not wish to eat well so that we become fitter & healthier? We would have more energy, better skin, improved night’s sleep, a faster metabolism and generally having a brighter outlook on life.
Hands up if you’re guilty of being one of those to fall off the ‘eating well’ band wagon early in the new year? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. We should be looking at how to make positive changes within our lives to improve our nutrition, thus improving overall health & wellbeing. Here’s a few small changes you could make to help improve your workplace nutrition…
Eat your 5 a day and more…
Instead of snacking on chocolate, cake or crisps at your desk – why not choose some fruit, seeds or chopped up cucumber or carrots? Every bit helps and counts towards your new year goal! The more fruit and vegetables you eat, the lower your risk of serious health issues such as heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure and diabetes.
Cut out sugar in your diet…
Weight gain, skin problems and energy lows – are all reasons to stay away from sugar in your diet. The press coverage on this topic in the past couple of years has been huge, sugar is hidden in more foods than we thought. To this day, it isn’t always obvious from the nutrition labels, look for its alias; fructose, glucose and dextrose. The more you can avoid sugar in your diet, the healthy you will be!
Don’t skip breakfast…
Make time to enjoy your breakfast. Eating breakfast keeps us feeling fuller for longer, boosts our energy levels and helps us to maintain our body weight. A breakfast rich in protein helps – Enjoy eggs, yogurts or nutty cereals to keep your body full of vital nourishment.
Encourage workplace nutrition…
Inspire healthy eating in your workplace, talk with your employer about including nutrition – perhaps during a wellbeing week? Or what about starting a lunch club, where you take it in turns to cook lunch for your colleagues. Healthier employees with less absences and a higher output due to increased energy levels – isn’t that what every company wants?
