National Stress Awareness Day: Understanding and managing workplace stress

National Stress Awareness Day takes place on 4 November, providing an opportunity to talk openly about stress and consider how we can better support mental and physical wellbeing.
Stress affects everyone differently. While a certain amount of pressure can be motivating, prolonged or unmanaged stress can have a wider impact on how people feel, think and perform.
For employers, understanding workplace stress and creating opportunities for employees to talk about pressure can form an important part of a wider wellbeing strategy.
Recognising the signs of stress
Stress does not always look the same from person to person. Changes in mood, sleep, concentration, motivation or behaviour can sometimes indicate that someone is finding things difficult to manage.
Helping employees understand these signs can encourage earlier conversations and make it easier for people to seek support when they need it.
